Beginning 2014, the Chennai Rainbow Coalition, which had functioned from 2009 to 2013, expanded to the Tamil Nadu Rainbow Coalition, partly in response to the need for consolidated effort to oppose Supreme Court’s Sec 377 of the Supreme Court delivered in 11.12.13.
As of 2018, the Tamil Nadu Rainbow Coalition consists of collectives, CBOs and NGOs (partial list: Kattiyakari, Nirangal, Orinam, Sahodaran, SIAAP, SAATHII, Tamil Nadu LGBTIQ Movement, Chennai Dost, Thozhi, etc.) and individuals working to raise visibility around sexuality and gender identity issues. It also includes groups constituted by the erstwhile Tamil Nadu AIDS Initiative and Pehchan initiative of SIAAP across Tamil Nadu.
